Where do you exactly live in Switzerland where they take the quiet hours serious? Seems new for me.

Coming to Switzerland next week Tuesday hearing the weather is bad.. Is it??

As our political system is not a representative but a direct democracy, we get to vote about our Healthcare system. As few as 100'000 signatures are needed to propose a new law (a change of the constitution, that is), and proposed changes are regularly rejected by the majority of voters. Our Healthcare system has many issues, but it suits the majority, so if the way it is set up is a culture shock for you, maybe it is true democracy which is in fact the biggest issue you have.

It is true that the health care system is expensive. The CHF 2,500 you mention is the franchise. The minimum is 300 which is the one I have. After that you still have to pay 10% of the bills (except hospital) up to a maximum of CHF 700. But the service is probably the best in the world, no waiting lists for most operations. But look at our salaries and the amount of tax we pay. As a retired person, my wife and I have an income of about chf 110,000 and we pay about chf 15,000 in tax. I am British and have lived in Switzerland for 45 years. Noise after ten you can take with a pinch of salt. Try inviting your neighbours to your party. It is true teenagers smoke too much, but as a teenager in England I would drink several beers on a night out. The Swiss teenager gets drunk on half a litre (a pint). For me the biggest cultural shocks were how important customs seem to be. How to greet people, the unnecessary rules. But the main integration problem is the language. It even takes Germans 3 months to understand Swiss German. Luckely in the German part, many Swiss speak excellent English.

Hi Olivia. I am going to Swiss from 31 Oct to 5 Nov. This are the three cities that I will be visiting which are Zurich 1N, Lucerne 2N and Interlaken 2N. I most likely will be going to Mt Pilatus, Jungfrau, probably 1 or 2 lake ride and 1 or 2 museums. On 5 Nov, I am going to travel from Interlaken to Italy, Milan. Base on above, which is better Travel Pass or Half Fare pass?

Those 2500 also calles „Franchise“ is a thing you can choose if you choose the 2500 option then you premium will be less expensive as a monthly payment however you can also choose the 300 „Franchise“ this inturn will make you have to pay more monthly but less when you actually need to go to the hospital or wherever!

if you work and live in Vaud, you should consider mobilis pass. for an adult (25+) it cost 275/month or 2475/year max (depending of the distance between your home and work). It's not that much but if you work 5day/week it is some saves

Expensive? Did you make a rough calculation of the compulsory payment in other european countries? In the best case scenario you must pay 20% of your income for the fucking public health service. In Switzerland you pay a fixed amount no matter what and hospitals are safe and clean. Stop spreading economic and financial ignorance. By the way, how much noise can you make during a home party? As a Swiss. If you want something practical instead of a shiny souvenir. Ask for a "Soldatenmesser 08" (soldier knife 08) it's the actual "Swiss Army Knife" meaning that's the one which is the standard pocket knife in the Swiss Army. It has a can opener, saw, screwdriver etc. Also you can open the main blade with one hand. Very usefull if you need to cut something real quick. It's actually in green, not red. But still from Victorinox. So you can brag to your co-workers that's the "actual" Swiss Army Knife. As it's the one issued in the Swiss Army. You should find it at every shop that sells Victorinox knifes. It's about 55$. PS: In Switzerland no one used the term "Swiss Army Knife", we prefer to say "pocket knife" or simply "knife" in german. The term "Swiss Army Knife" is only used for the pocket knifes issued by the Army. If at all. Mostly it's just called the "soldier knife".
